Patterns, Breaks, And The Chaos In Between

WHAT IS A PATTERN? Humans are creatures of habit. We need order, routine, patterns. Maybe it's what you do before bed. Maybe it's a lake you always stop to look at when walking down a certain path. Maybe it's an item you keep losing, or an argument you've had and resolved a hundred times, or a game you love to play. Maybe its an anxiety, a habit, or just a thought you keep repeating. Sometimes, it's cycling interests, shifting with the year itself. Sometimes it's reoccurring dreams. Sometimes, it's the way you talk to an inanimate object. A response to a certain kind of phrase, a favorite saying, a restaurant you've been to a thousand times before. Sometimes it's as innocent as always smiling when you see a baby. Sometimes it's as malicious as returning to an abusive partner. It can be as big as social conventions and traditions, or as small as the way you put on your socks. Patterns are everywhere. Patterns change naturally over time, as people ...

The Theory Of Neutrality And Nonsense

Does the set of all sets that don't contain themselves contain itself? If you answer 'yes', then the set includes itself. Therefore, it can't include itself, as it is no longer a set that doesn't contain itself. Which means it doesn't contain itself and therefore must contain itself... If you answer 'no', then the set is a set that does not contain itself. Ergo, it must be included in the set of all sets that don't contain themselves. Which means that it contains itself and shouldn't be included... Yes and no are equally wrong and right. Sone people call this a paradox, I prefer to call it nonsense. True, false, nonsense -- three basic, simple answers. Positive, negative, neutral -- three basic, simple states. A lion chasing you provokes fear. Someone insulting you causes anger. Something slimy and gross leads to disgust. Negative emotions, ones you tend to dislike. Your romantic partner sparks love. Your favorite game inspires joy. A really goo...

The Human Ant Theory

Ants are marvelous creatures. Strong, fast, capable of working together to build giant structures or take down creatures many times their size -- in some ways, they're a lot like us. Ants are as well the embodiment of self sacrifice. Most ants will never spread their genes, living solely for the good of the colony. Soldiers who can't feed themselves, living food banks, no-longer-living rafts, even doors; ants will do or become whatever their colony needs them to be, no matter the personal cost. In human society, giving your all at the complete sacrifice of your individual needs and health is generally considered a bad thing. Humans have hobbies, mental health days, relationships, boundaries, etc. Except for some humans. Some humans sacrifice more than the rest of us, at severe cost to their personal well being, and wouldn't be happy any other way. Some humans risk their lives on a regular basis. Others work nearly 24/7, destroying their health. There are jobs that are pret...
